Dren and the cat, again by JohannesVIII Dren and the cat, again by JohannesVIII
"What is this strange creature?"

I guess that's what both the cat and Dren are thinking.

At that point in the movie, Dren has been locked in an old barn by her "parents". She finds a cat, grabs it and runs to hide it. The viewer is a little worried because Dren killed and ate a rabbit earlier, but instead, she just hugs the cat and cuddles it.

I didn't like the previous Splice fanart I made, so I wanted to do a new one. Fortunately, I really like how this one turned out.

So much love for this movie.

When I saw this part of the movie I thought she was going to eat it. But then I calmed down when I saw she was going to cuddle it.

Yeah. It was a stupid move to take the cat away from her.

That was probably one of my favorite scenes, save the part where she dances with Clyde (Clive?) which actually brought a smile (shit-eating grin?) to this ever-scrowling face.

My favorite scene is the one when Elsa names her (when Dren writes NERD with the letters).

Ca y est je l'ai regardé. Eh ben...

Yes. That part was so sweet. I was a bit upset when she killed it, but I don't think she realized what death was and was trying to get back at Elsa.
Anyway. This is gorgeous. I love it. The colors and shading are so spot on. It looks really realistic.

Thank you!
I think she was upset by Elsa's line about pets. Maybe she thought Elsa was considering her as her pet, just like the cat, and wanted to prove her she was more than that. At least, imho.

The film was really good. I love it and I love Dren too.
Yeah, Dren needed a friend like this cat. You know, Dren actually have animal DNA into her, yeah? That's why she was curious about a cat then she hugged her/him.

Lovely artwork pierce.

I love the movie so much, I was was so pissed when she had her cat taken away from her. It was wrong! And besides, she was just acting like a teenager. She didnt have any other friends and she wasnt going to eat it...I think.

Nice rendition of that scene :) Dren was such a complex character, and understandably enough it was looking for trouble to take away from her the only friend she had.

I was shocked to discover how many people, at least on Youtube, consider Dren as a horrible monster while the movie tries to tell the exact opposite (well at least until she becomes a "he").

Personally I see the movie as a fable about ethics in science, and that research subjects are living beings who have feelings and can suffer. In all this Dren was like a child, uncomprehending why she was forbidden a little freedom. It sure made me think and it still does.

That's a very interesting point of view, I didn't really thought about the research subjects.

I was thinking about the chimpanzees used for AIDS research, they were abandoned after the trials were over. Splice makes the point that having the means to do something doesn't make it right. As a species we have a lot of knowledge, but not the wisdom to use it.
