Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n

My life is the weirdest soundtrack ever.

Work is pretty much killing me at this point. More than half of the people are in vacation here (we are 3 instead of 8), so I bet you can imagine how much work we have right now. Yesterday I began at 8:00 am and finished at 6:45 pm WITHOUT ANY PAUSE except 15 minutes for lunch. WHAT THE HELL.
And they keep saying being a fonctionnaire (government worker) in France is the best job ever for lazy people. IT'S NOT. IT. IS. NOT. I currently have like more than 24 hours of overtime which will never ever be paid, that kinda angers me _{and I feel a bit like Ronald Knox. [link]}
Don't get me wrong, I like my work a lot. It's just... there's currently too many people in vacation here.
