I've just discovered something about me by accident. I have something called "synesthesia".
It's not something bad, fortunately, it's just... I thought everyone was like that, and I had no idea it was some sort of neurological condition.
Allow me to explain. As far as I remember, every time I thought about abstract concepts like numbers, calendars, etc, I've always envisioned them with a shape and a shade of grey and I couldn't help it. And music has colors. Some sensations have colors, too.
For example, Friday is white and smaller than Saturday, which is light-grey. So today is a small white rectangular day, in a light-grey month.
I'm listening to the song Glosoli
by Sigur Ros. It begins white, then becomes yellow, then ends up being orange and warm.
See what I mean? I can't even help it. That's the way things are, and that's a good thing I think, because abstract things are never that
abstract. Up to this day I thought it was the same for everyone.
It appears it's not
, since it's called "synesthesia": [link]
Here you can read some people describing their respective synesthesia, it's pretty interesting: [link]
So, well, I have a lexeme → color synesthesia and a very limited sound → color synesthesia.
It feels really strange to discover that something you thought common isn't. But you know what's the weirdest thing for me? Well, I have yet to figure out HOW CAN MOST PEOPLE NOT SEE SHAPES AND COLORS when they think about abstract concepts, because it seems so natural to me.Work in progress:
